Steve leads the operational management. Qualified in science and economics, he has 10 years experience in commerce and over two decades experience as a Marine Scientist.  Steve has led and project managed multi-foci research programs within boreal, temperate and tropical marine ecosystems disseminating key deliverables to diverse stakeholders.

A chance encounter with an injured pelican 10 years ago evoked what has become my life’s passion. Since then I have rescued & cared for hundreds of birds, from giant petrels to arctic terns & everything in-between. With a dedicated team of skilled volunteers by my side we strive for the best outcomes for all wildlife we encounter.

A long time Project and Change Manager in ICT and systems, Amanda joined the Committee after being a volunteer with ASTR. Now based in Brisbane, Amanda brings experience in business digitisation and uplift, and managing end to end resourcing and operations throughout that process.  

Melinda is a Science and Marine Teacher at Southern Cross School of Distance Education in Ballina. She is a CoralWatch Ambassador and avid Scuba diver. Melinda’s focus is on building partnerships with community organisations to incorporate into educational programs.

Tertiary qualified in economics, environmental and biological science, with twenty years as a corporate and university sector Treasurer, ten years as a seabird ecologist and currently an Associate Research Fellow in Seabird Ecology at Deakin University. Penny has managed and led seabird research programs across south-eastern Australia, focusing on procellariiformes spatio-temporal use, diet and niche breadth.
